setscene is the one and only compendium of movie sets, available as iOS app on the iTunes App Store.
The price of setscene may change from time to time. Therefore it can only be seen from within the iTunes App Store.
The work on setscene is very extensive, because the movie entries must be upgraded and maintained. This is costly and time consuming, as well as the marketing activities to get noticed. For this service, we need some money to compensate our working hours.
We plan to release a new version in summer, which will integrate additional features and In-App-Purchase for time based access. If you wish to be informed, as soon as this version is available, please send an e-mail via our contact form, or use this address: Mail to setscene.
setscene deconstructs movies of cinema history in their particular sets. The movie set, the location and setting obtains focus. Movies can newly be explored or analyzed. This is valuable for professionals in media business, as for those who are enjoying cinema in general.
setscene on iPhone has the identical functionality as of an iPad. setscene is running at all iPads, iPhones running iOS 7 or above. The prior version 1.2 will run with iOS 5.1 or later. iPod touch is not yet tested. The future release will support iOS 9 and higher only.
setscene app for Android is currently not scheduled.
setscene exclusively focuses at the current version on movie sets, locations of the plot. Content and dramaturgical structure of the movie is not expressed at present. Additional movie analyses are intended to be available in a future version.
setscene is not a location scout. Its purpose is to assist merely for analyzing and comparing movie sets. It helps to explore which kind of sets are used in which movies. It will not deliver addresses of locations where these movies might have been shot.
You easily can send us an e-mail via the feedback-option within the app, or get in contact with our team. We take care of it.
If you start from “Sets”, you must narrow down your search in three steps. First e.g. select “Vehicles”, “Buildings” or similar. Two additional categories help to have a selective choice. If you are searching e.g. for a “Bar”, you select “Buildings” and “Gastronomy”, which presents a list of available sets, among them all those with a “Bar”.
“Interior” focusses exclusively on sets within enclosed spaces. In this connection the interior-term is widely interpreted: all enclosed interiors, which can precisely be entitled, will fit in here, not only those inside buildings. An alphabetical list helps to find an specific interior.
“Search” gives you the opportunity to find movies for certain criteria. In addition you can do a full text search for specific terms. It allows to search either based on “Set”, “Interior” or on the descriptive text of the movie sets.
Unfortunately it’s not possible to forward the images to other people or to save them from within the app, because of legal rights. To have a fast access to specific sets, please use the “favorites”-function.
If you plan to inform other people of an interesting set and want to share it, you are able to send the description of the set, along with timecode and details of the film. For this purpose the informations of the detail view of the set are compiled and send automatically. Sharing of a single image is limited to a low resolution with a superimposed text of the copyright of the respective movie production.
By the way: setscene will work via iOS Mirroring to share found sets on external monitors or beamers.
If you ran into a bug or mistake in the app, you are encouraged to get in contact with us via “Information/Contact” directly from within the app or select the contact form on our website.
setscene is a research project of Prof. Dipl.-Des. Heizo Schulze at the department Media Production of the University of Applied Sciences Ostwestfalen-Lippe. The particular approach of SetScene addresses those which have to deal with movies/media at a professional level, as well as cinephiles in general.
Working as a designer/film-maker as well as lecturer, Heizo Schulze over the years has been confronted numerous times by professional film-makers which wanted to be inspired by other movies. But who knows straightaway movies which are set e.g. at a filling station, at a cemetery, an attic etc.?
Out of this came the idea for setscene. The conclusions of movie analyses are stored at a specific database and screenshots are made with the help of student assistants. Heizo Schulze developed the database, the concept and codes the software. For constant enhancements of the movie set entries, students in the analyze team are working on additional movies of cinema history under the instruction of Heizo Schulze. With the ongoing development setscene shall become one of the important reference in movie sets for film-makers, cineasts and media-theorists.
