Movie N° 199: I was nineteen – K. Wolf 1968 GER

This movie has been decisive supported by the Socialist Government of the DDR and the Soviet Allies. This aura will stick to the movie forever. Apart from this the film-historical reviewing is amazingly important; not only related to the basic plot, the end of the Second World War. Konrad Wolf is able to take things out of his own experience while telling from the perspective of a German. His protagonist advanced together with the Russian Army, because his family emigrated to Moskau during the seizure of power by the Nazis.

And now the amazing thing happens: a men experiences his native country as an enemy territory. The meeting with german people, who are involved in the system in different ways, appropiates the spectator with the authentic pathos of the contemporary witness.

We choose this movie with its sets because of the special perspective of discovering Germany after the Second World War.
